This report provides insight into how the building engineering services sector is responding to the Building Safety Act across the UK. Based on a survey distributed to more than 20,000 businesses, it explores awareness, understanding, competence, and preparedness across the supply chain, highlighting where progress has been made and where important gaps still remain.

The findings show that overall awareness of the Building Safety Act is high and that understanding has improved since 2024. However, the report also highlights significant variation by company size and role, with smaller businesses more likely to be left behind and many respondents still unclear on dutyholder responsibilities, competence requirements, and organisational capability.

Designed for contractors, specialists, business leaders, and industry stakeholders, the report offers a practical snapshot of how the sector is adapting to a changing compliance landscape. It also identifies the key barriers to progress, including lack of clarity, cost and resource pressures, and insufficient guidance, while highlighting the additional training, tools, and support businesses say they need to improve compliance.
